When their songs came out (but I don't remember how and where I listened first time) I was loop listening for a while and still do sometimes. Very well crafted. For a non-native English speaker, they were unique, because they were somewhere between chansonnier and pop. And that's the chansonnier feature with a bit elaborated lyrics, some literature and cinema references here and there, that were certainly what did not make then big. The dark humour or cynicism is beautiful but then doesn't please everyone. Bigger public means more rhythm, or stunning power and less text elaboration. In their time for instance Eurythmics, or The Smiths (and with totally different songs like Ask vs How soon is now...). With these you could dance, with Lloyd Cole and Commotions it was already more like what he did after: sit and listen.

Mainstream was the Commotions best album. And then LC quits the band to go solo. I paid a chunk of money to buy the Extended version of My Bag and this became the opening song to my favourite playlists from around 1987 to 88

It is hard to believe that someone could make a first album this good, and never get close to it again.

Great mid 80s masterpiece 👌 Released in very late '85 November 1985 Really good song from Lloyd Cole and the commotions Much, much better than the rubbish that we have nowadays 😴 The 60s right up to the 2000s was a great time for music In my honest opinion from 2010 onwards music got worse

Magic song ❤❤❤ Loyd Cole should have been much more famous than he was. Excellent singer, composer, lyricist, his musicians have always been very good... From his debut with "Loyd Cole and the Commotions" then solo, his albums are of very high quality... I wonder why the public hasn't been more attentive to this wonderful artist... In any case, at 63 years old, he still sounds like just himself...his style has remained hyper personal. Excellent...🤩👍
